Chemistry

What do you think of when you hear the word "Chemistry"?

Do you think of hexagon chemical structures?

My major was chemistry, and I have been in the chemical industry for over 30 years.

But my blog today, "Chemistry." is about personal chemistry, which means good or bad relationships with the people around you.

Let me give you my two different stories.

The first one was fifteen years ago, at my first company.

My boss and I were in the meeting room; the topic was my business performance.

We were talking about the way of doing my daily job, but he looked really unhappy.

He and I had some misunderstandings and miscommunications, but we tried to harmonize as much as possible.

Suddenly, he got angry, hit the table, and shouted

"Why didn't you consult with me."

I was shocked and completely at a loss…

In the beginning, He and I had a good relationship and worked well together.

However, as you can guess, I could not rely on him since then.

The other story was from five years ago.  I was in Germany for a job interview.

It was my very first meeting with my future boss.

I was nervous because I had been jobless for six months.

I thought, "Oh! If I make a mistake, I will not get the job!  What should I do for my housing loan and my daughter’s university tuition…

God bless me!

But the next moment, he ran to me, “Hi, Fujino-san. Nice to meet you!”

He is a 90kg soccer player.

He made me happy from the beginning.

Which boss do you like?

What did I learn from these two opposite bosses?

The boss fifteen years ago was unsuccessful in building good chemistry with me, and

the second boss was successful.

Now I report to him.

Did I change my behavior or code of conduct?

No, I was Masa Fujino 57 years ago; I have the same character and am different from anyone else in Japan. And I always have had a total commitment to my business for over thirty years.

Initially, the boss fifteen years ago and I had a good relationship. But finally, he kicked me out of the company.

And the new boss and I were strangers until five years ago when we met for the first time.

Of course, he and I have different opinions, and we sometimes have conflicts, but at the end of the meeting, he always gives me encouraging words such as;

Hey Masa, you are the CEO of the Japanese market, so I rely on you.

“I am CEO?”

How about my feeling right now? I have a negative role model and a good role model.

What makes this difference?

My two bosses were examples; one collapsed chemistry, and the other

created chemistry with me.

Chemistry is a reaction between one person and another.

If you are afraid of contact with me, no chemistry exists.

Cooperation, Collaboration, and Innovation only happen in chemistry.

Ladies and gentlemen, the COVID-19 lockdown has gradually ended.

You will have a chance to meet a new person, and he or she will be

a very important person to you.

No, no, you may fall in love with this new person. What would you do?

You can remember… the behavior of my boss; he is a 90kg soccer player.

But successful in creating chemistry with me… now I like him very much.

Chemistry is the interaction between one person to another.

Chemistry… YOU can create good chemistry.
