My Lifelong volunteer
Recently, I developed my 10-second self-introduction.
Hello, my name is Masa Fujino. I donated blood 339 times and ran a full marathon in under 3 hours.
Yes, blood donation is my lifelong volunteer, I have continued it since I was 18 years old for 42 years.
We have many volunteer opportunities. Among them, I will introduce blood donation,
Today’s purpose of my blog is to gather friends of blood donation; I mean, I encourage you to donate blood.
Why blood donation? I will talk about three points.
1) Good return on investment volunteer.
Blood donation; it took only two hours. I always donate 200 millilitres of blood plasma (血漿). My blood can save a maximum of 20 people’s lives. Your 2 hours will save 20 patients! This means my 339 times blood donation may save more than 6,700 patients. Do you think it is a very good return on investment?
2) You can check your own health.
Every time we go for blood donation, they check our blood, which means our health. It includes important points such as cholesterol, γ GTP and so on.
I think most people have health checks once a year, but if you donate blood, you can have them more often.
3) You can get small gifts.
When I was a poor college student, can you imagine when I went to a blood donation?
The answer is when I was hungry.
Once you donate blood, you can get small gifts such as Calorie Mate, Ice cream, and beverages from a vending machine.
As I talked, I continued donating blood for 42 years, a total of 339 times. Why?
Let me confess the important episode 15 years ago; now, this is the biggest reason.
My only daughter, Risa, who is now 28 years old, was hospitalised for four months due to blood diseases. I remember it was a crisis in our family. Risa could not go to school, and she lost a lot of friends; my wife had to visit Risa after work every day
But who saved Risa’s life? Of course, doctors, nurses, and everyone in her hospital did a good job. Risa was transfused with blood several times. Yes, unknown blood donors saved her life; without donors, she would have died. This is why I continue blood donation.
Even today’s advanced medical and bioscience technology, no one can make blood.
We need your help. I am asking on behalf of many patients, like Risa, 15 years ago.
They need your blood.
