Book publishing paid off

One day in 2009, my boss and HR manager talked to me

“Fujino-san, you no longer have a job in our company.”

How would you react if you were me?

14 years have passed since then; I have experienced job change three times.

Honestly, I also had an in-kind harsh experience in 2017, which was an absolutely difficult time for me.

I published this book. Three and half years have passed.

I hope some of you already read it; let me introduce my book's essence to those who has not yet read it.

This book is a summary of how I overcame the difficult situation, how I got a happy job, and how I became happy in both professional and private.

Tonight, my speech title is “Book Publishing Paid Off?”

To answer this question, I will look into something from various viewpoints.

Point No.1:  Was it profitable?

The answer is No. Printed 1,000 books, and probably 500 books were sold.

It spent 1 million yen and got approximately 30% of it. Unfortunately, I could not earn money as a famous writer.

Point No.2:  Was I successful in connecting with the target reader?

The answer is Yes or No.

I could do some side business with my career consultant certificate and experience.

But sometimes, my book was read by an unintended reader; one day, I had a complaint from a friend; he said, “Hi Fujino-san, I passed your book to my colleague, and three months later, he found another job and resigned from our company. We lost him due to your book.”

To be honest, it is none of my business.

Point No.3:  Did I have good side effects?

The answer is absolutely Yes.

I sometimes come across the person, “Hey Fujino-san, I read your book. It was so interesting.” I had such feedback from a customer in my business, my old friends, and even the person who fired me. These are good conversation triggers, so my book publishing played an excellent role in having good relationships with those people.

And I found it was beneficial for myself.

Output is the best way to summarize our idea. As with the speech at Toastmasters, through output, I could confirm what is important for me, what I like and dislike, and what kind of activity I am good at or not.

Furthermore, it was really beneficial for our family bonding.

Losing the job was a very tough situation. I experienced it twice. I could not overcome without support from my family.

Last night, I had a very happy and surprising situation.

I was invited to a drinking session by my colleague; she had told me, “Fujino-san, one of my friends, read your book; he was so inspired that he asked me to have a drink with you”.

The man was her husband. He spent his time at a foreign firm for over 32 years, but he was fired. But he passionately talked to me, “Fujino-san, thanks to your book, I got a job. You really saved my life; thank you very, very much!!”.

Yes, I was successful in Point No.2; I could connect with a very passionate target reader on a face-to-face basis for the first time. To be honest, yesterday was one of the happiest days of my life.

“Book Publishing paid off?”

The answer is absolutely Yes.

But I will make my life as saying “Yes”.
