This is the script for one of my milestone speeches of Toastmasters titled “Chemistry”.

What do you think of when you hear the word "Chemistry"?

Do you think of hexagon chemical structures?

Actually, my major was chemistry, and I have been in chemical industry for 27 years.

But my speech today is about personal chemistry, which means good or bad relationships

with the people around you.

Let me give you my two different stories of business environment.

3 Move Right

The first one was ten years ago, at my first the company.

My boss and I were in the meeting room, topic was my my performance

appraisal.

We were talking about my way of doing my daily job, but he looked really unhappy.

Suddenly, he got angry and he hit the table and shouted "Why didn't you consult

with me!?"

Pause

I was shocked, completely at a loss...

He and I had been good relationship and had worked well together.

However, as you can guess, I could not rely on him since then.

.

The other story was in last October. I was in Germany for a job a interview.

It was my very first meeting with my future boss.

I was really nervous and thought "Oh! If I will make mistake, I will not get the job!

But in the next moment, he ran to me, “Hi, Fujino-san nice to meeting you!”

He is a 90kg soccer player.I was really nervous and thought "Oh! If I will make mistake,

He made me happy from the beginning.But in the next moment, he ran to me,

“Hi, Fujino-san nice to meeting you!”

Which boss do you like?

What did I learn from these two opposite bosses?

The boss ten years ago was unsuccessful in building good chemistry with me and

the second boss was successful.

Now I report to him.

Did I change my behavior, code of conduct?

No, no, I was Masa since 52 years ago, different from Peter or Yumiko!

Originally, the boss ten years ago and I had a good relationship.

And the new boss and I were strangers until last October

How about my feeling right now? I have a negative role model and a good role model.

What makes the difference?

My two bosses were examples, one collapsed chemistry and the other created chemistry

with others.

I have worked with Germany boss for three month and

I made a careful observations and analysis of two bosses, what makes the second boss

so successful?

I have concluded two points.

First one is SMILE.

He always smile and create friendly atmosphere.

Of course we sometimes have difference perspectives but

we always can exchange candid opinions

Second one is respect to others.

Most favorable phrase he always mention is

“Masa, you are CEO of Japanese market”

Yes, I am CEO, Chief Entertainment Officer!

Now I strongly feel smile and respect to others are his key success traits to

create good chemistry with me and other team members.

Chemistry is reaction between one person and another.

If you are afraid of contact with me, no chemistry exists.

Cooperation, Collaboration and Innovation only happened from chemistry.

Ladies and gentlemen, spring has come.

You will have chance to meet a new person, and he or she will be

a very important person to you.

No, no you may fall in love with this new person. What would you do?

You can remember... the behavour of my boss, he is 90kg Germany soccer player.

but successful... now I like him very much.

Chemistry... YOU can create good chemistry.
